Angels Baseball Wives Tee-up Against Child Abuse

Former Angel Wife Continues to Support Children’s Charity

ORANGE, CA, May 21, 2008 Angels Baseball wives will be joining the fight against child abuse on Tuesday, June 10th at the 5th Annual Jessica Erstad “Not So Serious” Women’s Golf Outing. Angels Baseball has been a steady supporter of this event since its inception and has played a key role in the tournament raising more than $240,000 for the Child Abuse Prevention Center’s parenting education, prevention, mental health and awareness programs.

The tournament’s chair, Jessica Erstad, whose husband Darin played a key role in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s success over the last decade and is currently playing with the Houston Astros, founded this event five years ago in support of the Child Abuse Prevention Center.

“Even though Darin doesn't play for the Angels, they are still in our hearts. We're very appreciative of the support Angels Baseball, along with the many fans, have continued to show to us. We call Orange County our off-season home and we are glad to be part of the Prevention Center's fundraising efforts,” comments Jessica Erstad.

“Jessica's tournament is a great experience every year. Not only do us girls get to have a great time golfing, we’re able to help a great cause. The Prevention Center is a wonderful organization. It feels great to help such a worthy charity," comments Patty Hatcher, wife of Angels batting coach, Mickey Hatcher.

This year’s roster of Angel wives include: Amanda Quinlan, Carly Moseley, Patty Hatcher, Jina Bootcheck, Jody Kendrick, Krista Clark and Jamie Bates. Many of these ladies have been involved in this tournament in the past and are looking forward to the fun and excitement they’ve grown to expect. “I'm very excited that so many Angel wives will be coming out to golf this year. It's great to have their support,” says Jessica Erstad.

This year’s Summer Olympics theme will offer a day of entertainment and good-natured sportsmanship for all. This nine-hole tournament appeals to avid golfers as well as those who are new to the game. Ladies may find themselves having to putt while wearing boxing gloves, tee off together as synchronized swimmers, or putt with a ping-pong ball instead of a golf ball. Laughter and fun will be enjoyed on the greens before heading into the clubhouse for cocktails, silent and live auctions, as well as an awards dinner.

"I'm the definition of a not so serious golfer and I loved every minute on the course. What a great way to spend the day; golfing with girlfriends, in the sun, having fun AND raising money for an amazing cause. I had such a good time last year that I've been recruiting other friends to join me this year. We can't wait," comments Amanda Quinlan, wife of Angel infielder, Robb Quinlan.

The Child Abuse Prevention Center is dedicated to serving at-risk children and families with programs that break the generational cycle of child abuse and family violence. The Prevention Center’s early intervention programs have well-documented records of strengthening and improving parent-child relationships and working to prevent abuse before it occurs. Since 1983, the Prevention Center has served more than 184,000 Orange County residents – including nearly 16,500 children, 10,000 parents and 6,800 families in the last year alone. For additional information, please visit the Prevention Center’s web site at http://www.brightfutures4kids.org/.

Comments:
A great group of women getting together for a great cause. Many cases of child abuse can be prevented if people simply watch for the signs of abuse, look into it and report it. The Center is doing a great job of encouraging this kind of alert caring among the public. Good going, wives!
