VNY averages nearly one-half million takeoffs and landings annually, with 466,449 total operations in 2003. More than 100 businesses are located on the 730-acre airport, including six major fixed-base operators and numerous aviation service companies. VNY is one of four airports owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, including Los Angeles International, Ontario International and Palmdale Regional. The airport system operates under the direction of a policy-making Board of Airport Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles.
