REI is a co-op, but don't let that fool you into thinking that you can shop there on the cheap! This is Orange County, and sports equipment, after all! Go to Army-Navy if you want inexpensive. REI has good prices on excellent equipment, and members get a dividend back on their non-sale purchases at the end of the year. Topo maps are a few bucks cheaper here, but they only carry the most popular. You might also want to check out their online store, where you can get equipment for less, at REI-Outlet.com.
