The City of Santa Ana, California

The Orange County Seat. "Don Gaspár de Portolá, a Spanish expedition party leader, discovered a picturesque valley and river in Southern California which he christened Santa Ana, in honor of Saint Anne, on July 26, 1769. José Antonio Yorba, a youthful expedition soldier, and his nephew Juan Peralta, were given a Spanish land grant for the area. They developed the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana for cattle grazing and productive farmland. In 1869, William H. Spurgeon purchased 70 acres from the Yorba family and plotted a townsite. The new town was given the name Santa Ana. In 1886, Santa Ana was incorporated as a city. Orange County was separated from Los Angeles in 1889, and Santa Ana was designated the County Seat. Santa Ana is the financial and governmental center of Orange County and a major city in the state.... Largest city in Orange County by population and the County Seat Ninth largest in California by population.... The City of Santa Ana was incorporated on June 1, 1886. A City Charter was adopted in 1952, which established a Council/Manager form of Government. The City is governed by a Council consisting of six Council members and a directly elected Mayor. Council candidates are nominated from wards, but elected by voters from the entire city. Council members are elected to four-year terms and the mayor is elected every two years."  Santa Ana

This has been a difficult decision for us, as you know how passionate we have been over the last two-and-a-half years in providing the community with a weekly opportunity to buy fresh, local produce and prepared specialty foods, as well as a welcoming gathering space in which to enjoy them. We will continue to work with our supporters in the community in an effort to re-open the Market in the near future. Please be sure to sign up for our mailing list on our home page, so that we are able to keep you informed of our continued efforts and a foreseeable date for the Market’s Grand Re-Opening." Theatre Out

"What does it mean that Theatre Out is a gay and lesbian theatre? As a gay and lesbian theatre, Theatre Out will be presenting works by gay and lesbian playwrights as well as pieces that examine the gay and lesbian community. We will explore the classics that shaped our history and the new works that are continuing to form, examine and reshape our culture. Why does Orange County need a gay and lesbian theatre? The founders of Theatre Out (see About Us) have long seen the need for a theatre that supports the gay and lesbian community. The Orange County theatre scene is thriving and the time is right to introduce a theatre company that tells the stories of the gay and lesbian community with romantic comedies, intriguing musicals, thrilling mysteries, serious dramas and everything in between." They are in the Santa Ana Artists Village. NOTE: Theatre Out is not "in your face," so you need not be shy about attending if you are straight.  Santa Ana
