Aquatic Center
"The Aquatic Center has been family owned for nearly 40 years. So, our clients can rely on us for superior service. Would you like to experience the awesome wonder of the world's least explored frontier? All it takes is a few nights during ONE WEEK - and the desire to expand your experiences!... Yes, we have a refresher course for those of you that have been away from the water for just a tad-bit too long. Only one evening and $140 will get you back into the deep. You owe it to yourself. This is the time of the year to enjoy the ocean. Don't wait too long! There are beautiful diving conditions out there.... Yes, we have advanced classes in several areas. The Open Water course teaches you just the basics of diving. There is not time enough in a basic course to go beyond the simple concepts and skills. The key issue in SCUBA is to know one's own limitations and be able to recognize problems before they arise. The Aquatic Center's Advance Dive courses should be your next step toward becoming a safer, more skillful and relaxed diver - who can really enjoy the water.... Mike Eimers has completed his Master Instructor certification, the highest level of certification available from SSI (Scuba School International). He has over 3000 logged dives. Mike has been diving for more than 9 years, and has completed the following specialty courses: Boat Diving • Deep Diving • Underwater Navigation • Limited Visibility/Night Diving • Computer Diving • Wave, Tides and Currents • Equipment • Dry Suit Diving • Spearfishing • Stress and Rescue" Website includes a "Find a Buddy" list.  Newport Beach

Balboa Fun Zone
"The Balboa Fun Zone is one of Southern California's oldest and last great coastal amusement areas.... Located on the Balboa Peninsula of Newport Beach.... There's the Balboa Pier, built on the site of Glen Martin's historic the first water-to-water flight, from Balboa to Catalina Island in 1912, and is one of the few piers to survive undamaged by Southern California's destructive coastal storms of the '80s. There's the Catalina Flyer, one hour to Catalina Island. The Balboa Island Ferry, only 50 cents. The harbor cruises, whale watching cruises, sport fishing, quaint shops and great restaurants. And, of course, there's the Balboa Fun Zone. Since 1936, the Fun Zone's ferris wheel has been a day and night landmark on the Newport Harbor scene, beckoning all to join in the fun.... Completely rebuilt from the ground up in 1986, the Fun Zone's ferris wheel, merry-go-round, bumper cars scary dark ride, arcades, fun food, and shops still make it the highlight of every visit to Balboa."  Balboa

Festival of Arts / Pageant of the Masters
Held each July through September. "California’s finest Summer art event is staged in a six-acre canyon park near the ocean in Laguna Beach. The stars of this summertime tradition, which began here in 1932, are over 140 of the Southland’s most accomplished artists. This is a rigorously juried show, requiring exhibitors to demonstrate and maintain high aesthetic standards. Their work is truly fine art! The artworks on display are for sale and represent a complete spectrum of art media: paintings, sculpture, pastels, drawings, serigraphs, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, etched and stained glass, fiber arts, handcrafted furniture and even scrimshaw. All of the works are original art - another element that distinguishes the Festival of Arts from other shows. The Festival is the perfect place to find affordable and unique works of art to decorate your home or business.... In addition to the art exhibition, the Festival provides a relaxing, entertaining environment with plenty to see and do.... In addition to the special events, come and enjoy art workshops, daily docent-led tours offering expert insights to the exhibits, musical entertainment and hands-on demonstrations in printmaking, ceramics, painting and paper art. Then, explore the outstanding accomplishments of talented local students at the Junior Art Exhibit, featuring 150 works selected from over 1,500 submissions.... Each night during the summer season at 8:30 the Festival of Arts presents its most famous attraction, the Pageant of the Masters. What is it? Ninety minutes of "living pictures" - incredibly faithful art re-creations of classical and contemporary works with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. An outdoor amphitheater, professional orchestra, original score, live narration, intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, expert staff, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have won recognition for the Pageant as the best presentation of its kind."  Laguna Beach

Newport Harbor
"Newport Harbor has been acclaimed as one of the finest small boat harbors in the world. In addition, Newport Harbor and its surrounding shoreline is a place of beauty and scenic wonder... wind blown bluffs, sandy beaches, rocky coves and numerous islands from the harbor outline. Two jetties stand as sentries against the encroaching sea. Two main channels join and converge towards the harbor mouth. Over 9,000 boats are berthed in this well protected harbor. Quiet bay beaches line the length of the inside channel while endless surf pounds the oceanfront. Newport Harbor is as functional as it is beautiful. Boat slips line much of the shoreline and midchannel anchorage is also available. All size recreational and commercial boats can be accommodated, from the smallest of rowboats to large luxury yachts. Private homes, from beach houses to estates, follow the harbor's contour. Spreading fan-like out from the harbor's edge is the City of Newport Beach."  Irvine, Newport Beach
Newport Harbor Annual Christmas Boat Parade
"Join over a million viewers as you watch beautifully decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes sail along the harbor in the 96th Annual Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade. Presenting Sponsor Simple Green, Official Sponsors the Daily Pilot and Janes Capital Partners, and the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce invite you to sail to the theme of 'A Winter Waterland.' As Newport Beach’s Christmas Card to the world, the boat parade will set the harbor ablaze for five consecutive nights, beginning Wednesday, December 15 and ending Sunday, December 19, 2004. The parade starts off Collins Island at 6:30 pm and finishes at the same site at approximately 8:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and 9:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Two separate routes are run on different evenings.) Beautiful multi-million dollar yachts, kayaks, canoes and other small boats will light up the harbor as a dazzling array of holiday lights and music fill the air at the Christmas Boat Parade. Many of the boats will be richly decorated with animated Christmas scenes accompanied by music and costumed carolers. With this year’s theme, participants are also encouraged to decorate their boats taking into account the unique celebration of the holiday season in Southern California. Some boat owners in the past have spent over $50,000 to decorate their vessels for the event. The Christmas floats will wind their way some 14 miles around the harbor to give viewers in restaurants, yacht clubs, on public beaches, and in private homes a incredible sight that has delighted millions of people for 95 years."  Newport Beach
Newport Surf School
"Many years of surfing has given Me the satisfaction of travel and true excitement of riding the best waves in the world! I previously competed in Hawaii and California, (1977-1980) and continued my education and searched for secret spots. My method is to teach surfing so that it is fun and easy to learn. I have developed techniques for 17 years that ensure you will learn quickly. These techniques have proven to be successful. I provide top-of-the-line wetsuits and Surfboards, not foam boards used by many camps and independent instructors. I also prefer to teach private lessons because it is safer and more effective. I started by putting my name in shops seventeen years ago and to my surprise the school grew to be the most recommended surf school in California. I am sponsored and endorsed by many surf shops and business' because of my high standard and quality instruction."  Corona del Mar
