Festival of Arts / Pageant of the Masters

Held each July through September. "California’s finest Summer art event is staged in a six-acre canyon park near the ocean in Laguna Beach. The stars of this summertime tradition, which began here in 1932, are over 140 of the Southland’s most accomplished artists. This is a rigorously juried show, requiring exhibitors to demonstrate and maintain high aesthetic standards. Their work is truly fine art! The artworks on display are for sale and represent a complete spectrum of art media: paintings, sculpture, pastels, drawings, serigraphs, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, etched and stained glass, fiber arts, handcrafted furniture and even scrimshaw. All of the works are original art - another element that distinguishes the Festival of Arts from other shows. The Festival is the perfect place to find affordable and unique works of art to decorate your home or business.... In addition to the art exhibition, the Festival provides a relaxing, entertaining environment with plenty to see and do.... In addition to the special events, come and enjoy art workshops, daily docent-led tours offering expert insights to the exhibits, musical entertainment and hands-on demonstrations in printmaking, ceramics, painting and paper art. Then, explore the outstanding accomplishments of talented local students at the Junior Art Exhibit, featuring 150 works selected from over 1,500 submissions.... Each night during the summer season at 8:30 the Festival of Arts presents its most famous attraction, the Pageant of the Masters. What is it? Ninety minutes of "living pictures" - incredibly faithful art re-creations of classical and contemporary works with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. An outdoor amphitheater, professional orchestra, original score, live narration, intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, expert staff, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have won recognition for the Pageant as the best presentation of its kind."  Laguna Beach

"Aliso Beach Park features sandy beaches, rocky promontories, and scenic coastal foothills. These geological features combine to form one of the most recreationally appealing areas along the entire California coast. The park consists of two sections, the beach itself and an inland area surrounded by native coastal chaparral. Aliso Creek winds its way down from the Laguna foothills and empties into the sea. A marine life refuge borders to the north and south, rocky outcroppings clearly mark the park boundary. These features plus the congenial Southern California climate make Aliso Beach Park an ideal place to visit."  Laguna Beach

Laguna Canyon Dog Park

About 2 miles south of the 405 on Laguna Canyon Road, on the east side of the road. Coming from the 405, it is on the left side of the road, just past the Animal Shelter. A fairly large park, with a 2-gate entry system. Poop bags and a watering station are available. Benches and a picnic table. You may want to bring a folding chair for this one, however. Etiquette for entering and leaving: Wait until the entry pen is empty. Take your dog in, close the gate behind you, take the dog off the leash. Open the inside gate and let your dog run into the park. This avoids "leash aggression". A dog on a leash feels threatened and may lash out at the other dogs coming to greet him. When exiting, wait until the exit pen is empty. Call your dog into it, close the inside gate, then put your dog's leash on. Then exit the pen. The two gates should never be open at the same time! Used properly, this system is awesome.  Laguna Beach
Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

"Lush, sycamore-shaded canyons and high ridges offering views of the Pacific Ocean create a spectacular environment for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Designed to preserve the delicate balance of the natural habitat, a major portion of the park’s 6,500 acres is open for use on a limited basis.... Laguna Coast Wilderness Park lies within some of the last remaining coastal canyons in Southern California. The park ecosystem is primarily Coastal Sage Scrub, with Maritime Chaparral, Oak Woodlands, Riparian habitats, and the ONLY natural lakes in Orange County. The park is also enrolled in the Natural Community Conservation Planning program designed to protect various endangered species (California Gnatcatcher, Cactus Wren, Orange-Throated Whiptail) by preserving large tracts of the rapidly diminishing coastal sage ecosystem. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park is 6500 acres (property is owned by The City of Laguna Beach, The County of Orange, and the California Department of Fish & Game) It is part of the South Coast Wilderness area, comprised of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Crystal Cove State Park, The City of Irvine Open Space and Irvine Ranch Land Reserve, and Laguna Coast (about 18,000 acres)"  Laguna Beach
