Q: What is a Certified Farmers Market? A: The Certified Farmers Market concept is an effort to re-establish the traditional link between farmers and consumers in California. Put simply, certified farmers markets (CFM's) are "the real thing", places where the genuine farmers sell their crops directly to the public. It is where the agrarian community relates to the urban community. More specifically, a CFM is a location approved by the county agricultural commissioner where certified farmers offer for sale only those agricultural products they grow themselves. California Certified Farmers Markets are operated in accordance with regulations established in 1977 by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Only a handful of CFM's were in the California direct marketing program back then. There are over 350 communities with Certified Farmers Markets in the State now and the number is growing every year. This rare meeting of farmers and consumers serves as an educational experience whereby customers learn about their food sources and have access to nutritional information."  Anaheim

Carbon Canyon Regional Park
The city is fast encroaching, but this is still somewhat isolated up in the hills above Orange County. The park itself is similar to Yorba Regional Park, but if you head east from the parking lot with your bike, you'll find miles of fireroad bike trails from beginner to advanced. If you ride long enough, you'll find yourself at Prado Regional Park in Riverside County. During the wetter months, there are a number of small streams to ford. Take the family and enjoy a picnic by a pond under the trees. "With its wild and rugged canyon terrain and full selection of recreational activities, including hiking and equestrian trails, this park seems miles away from civilization.... Carbon Canyon Regional Park consists of 124 acres. Sixty are developed and of the remaining acreage, a ten acre grove of Coastal Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) has been established. Throughout the developed park are Pepper trees, Sycamores, Eucalyptus and Pines."  Brea
The Children's Museum at La Habra
"The Children's Museum at La Habra opened in December 1977 and is located in a historic 1923 Train Depot. It features 7 galleries and 14 different hands on exhibits, many of which remain unique to the field today. In addition to these exhibits, an outdoor dinosaur topiary and historic 1942 caboose, the Museum features an exhibit which changes 4 times a year. The Children's Museum at La Habra was the first children's museum to open west of the Rocky Mountains, and was one of only a few such museums to open on the West Coast during the 1970s. The Children's Museum welcomes local, national and international visitors. Children can ride a kid-size carousel, take a walk in T-Rex's footprints, pet an Arctic fox, pump gas, drive a bus, dress up and perform, and dig for fossils all in one afternoon!"  La Habra

Mark my words: There will be Sonic Drive-in's everywhere in OC within 10 years! You drive up into a stall and order from your car. A waiter or waitress walks or skates food out to your car. There are also umbrellas over a central set of tables for fair weather. Very 50's-esque. But the real story is the food. They have some real taste treats you won't find at other fastfood burger joints - things like Chicken Wraps, Ched-R-Peppers, Drink Add-In Flavors and Strawberry Limeaide. Enjoy!
