Mensa - Orange County Chapter

"What does Orange County Mensa really do? Mostly, we share with each other. We do this through monthly open houses and other social activities, and through monthly newsletters. We love thinking and learning new things, so when we can, we'll get speakers on any ol' topic - constitutional law, developments in genetics, you name it - and spend the evening expanding our minds. Our Speaker's Forums are open to the public. Maybe even before the Internet had them, Mensa had its 'Special Interest Groups' (SIGs). A lot of the events posted in the calendar are SIG activities: SIG interests can range completely all the way from the ridiculous to the sublime. Eight Ball? Blood donors? Classical music? Orange County Mensa has them. Mensa holds many 'Regional Gatherings' through the year, weekends where we'll convene at some hotel or other and spend the weekend doing what we enjoy most, sharing and learning (and eating and drinking and playing games and going to parties and...). In Orange County, we generally hold ours sometime in August. It's our group's big event of the year. We support gifted children programs, education in general, and through the national group, research into the phenomenon of human intelligence." Regular meetings include: 1st Wednesday 8-Ball Brigade - A happy hour where some (but not necessarily all) play pool. Meets first Wednesday of the month (except holidays) at Danny K's in Orange. 1st Friday Beerhunters - A movable beer feast. We visit a different brewpub on the 1st Friday of each month. Socializing, eating & drinking. 2nd Friday Happy Hour - Actually does meet on the 2nd Friday. Socializing, eating & drinking with friendly and distinguished group. 2nd Saturday Good Movies - We see "art films." We decide on the movie in front of the theater. After, we get a bite to eat, and share impressions. 3rd Friday at Hollingshead's - Actually does meet on the 3rd Friday. Socializing, eating & drinking at friendly neighborhood joint."
OC Star Wars Society

"We are a group of people, bonded by a, sometimes unhealthy, love of Star Wars. We get together for movies and social gatherings. We have costuming and mock saber battling events. We are a non-profit club, but we do raise money for charities, and do costumed hospital visits from time to time. Truly there is something here for everyone. While you are browsing this site there are a few points of interest. The message boards (to the lower left) is where we talk about, well, everything, but most importantly it's where you can find info on upcoming events and activities. You can also check the calendar (to the right) to see what we have scheduled for the next month or two. Lastly, you can check out pictures from our fun filled past in the multimedia section."
The Orange County Vegetarian Meetup Group

"Meet fellow plant-eaters near you! Come to a local Vegetarian Meetup to share a meal, trade recipes, get advice on nutrition and more. Have fun and make new herbivore friends!... Take any topic – being a mom, practicing French, caring for pugs – if it's something you're interested in, there's a good chance there are others nearby who are interested, too. That's what Meetup is all about– finding the others and getting together – in-person, face-to-face."
