Duke's Huntington Beach Restaurant
"Enjoy endless ocean views and memorable dining at Duke's Huntington Beach - located at the foot of the historic Huntington Beach Pier. Opened in 1998, Duke's encourages you to sit back, relax and take in the view while you enjoy its Hawaiian beach house ambiance and trademark Pacific Rim menu selections. With its inherent fun and an added serious side of good food, Duke's is perfect for a lazy lunch, an evening repose or a relaxing cocktail in the Barefoot Bar. In addition to the local surfing memorabilia adorning the walls, Duke's Huntington Beach pays homage to its namesake, Duke Kahanamoku, with its many statues, photos, and paintings depicting Duke throughout his long, adventurous life. Duke's Huntington Beach is the fourth restaurant named for Duke, the father of modern day surfing, who originated board surfing directly in front of the original Duke's Canoe Club in Waikiki. A logical location for the newest Duke's, Huntington Beach has been known as 'Surf City' since 1965 when Duke presided over the first national surf contest on the beach in front of the restaurant. To this day, the annual U.S. Open Surf Championship takes place every summer in front of Duke's Huntington Beach."  Huntington Beach
L & L Hawaiian Barbeque
"In 1976 Johnson Kam and Eddie Flores, Jr., both budding entrepreneurs, purchased the L&L Drive-Inn on Liliha Street in Honolulu, Hawaii. Times were tough during the early years but Kam and Flores persevered with their work ethic and optimism. The founders of the L&L Drive-Inn decided to franchise and expand their operation in 1988. They were among the first to build a reputation of serving fresh plate lunches, in generous portions, and low prices across Hawaii with their very successful chain of L&L Drive-Inn restaurants.... In late 1999, Kam and Flores introduced their L&L brand of plate lunches to the mainland in California. Anticipating the unfamiliarity of the plate lunch to the mainland, Flores brilliantly repackaged it as 'L&L Hawaiian Barbecue'.... To understand the menu definition of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, one must look back to its predecessor of Hawaiian Barbecue – the Hawaiian plate lunch. The traditional Hawaiian plate lunch consists of two servings of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and features a generous serving of a hot entrée (a smaller 'mini' version of the traditional plate lunch consists of one serving of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and a small serving of a hot entrée). L&L’s Hawaiian Barbecue’s unique meal composition and signature brand of Asian and American fusion cuisine has helped it to stand out from the others."
