Latin American Film Festival

Held in April by the UC Irvine Humanities Department Film and Video Center. "The University of California, Irvine Latin American Film Festival returns to the people of Orange County and the student community for 5 consecutive weeks of movie screenings. At the UCILAFF we will show independent films that are new to U.S. audiences, as well as films that have had scarce distribution in this country. They represent recent trends in Latin American cinematic expression and are among the very best in international cinema."  Irvine
Newport Beach Film Festival

"Between April 15th and April 25th, the 2004 Newport Beach Film Festival will showcase more than 350 films from around the world, offering an ambitious and international selection of features, shorts, documentaries and animation that will compete for both Jury and Audience awards. Now in its 5th year, the Festival is proud to treat its audience to World and U.S. premieres, Academy Award entries, Sundance Selections, a Spotlight Series, and Children's Festival, from both the independent and studio worlds. With submissions from Asia, Europe, South/Central America and Africa, classic and contemporary filmmaking will provide a unique mix of genre and culture. Since its beginnings, the Festival has presented many acclaimed films, including Sexy Beast, Spellbound, Dogtown and Z Boys, Joint Security Area, and Castle in the Sky, as well as anniversary screenings of classics such as The French Connection, Sunset Boulevard and The Outsiders. As a result, the Newport Beach Film Festival has quickly gained recognition both from filmmakers and audiences, and is expected to attract more than 25,000 cinephiles in 2004. In addition, the Newport Beach Film Festival offers a rare opportunity to meet the filmmakers. Directors, screenwriters and cinematographers eager to share their work will provide an exclusive inside look at the industry during post-screening Q&A's . Set in beautiful Newport Beach, a few blocks away from spectacular coastline and less than an hour from Hollywood, the Festival will host several premieres, galas and yacht parties for a singular festival experience. Films will be shown throughout the city that boasts one of the largest movie consumer groups in the world, a rich filmmaking history as well as fine dining, shopping, and exceptional recreational activities."  Newport Beach

Orange County Theater Festival

July, August, September. "The first annual Orange County Theater Festival will bring encore presentations of four of the most hailed local theater productions in the county's history to the stage this summer—in a beautiful, covered, 246-seat amphitheatre at the historic Muck Mansion in Fullerton. These critically acclaimed plays, all of which were smash hits, will each run for eight performances, giving you a chance to experience some of the finest live theater Southern California has to offer. All of OCTF's mainstage shows are performed here, in a 246-seat covered amphitheater. The large stage and open layout of the theater means there isn't a bad seat in the house. Additionally, each seat is adjacent to a small courtesy dining table ... feel free to bring your refreshments to the show. Beverages and light snacks are available for purchase before the show and during intermission." At the Muckenthaler Cultural Center.  Fullerton
